Introduction: On 6/11/2024, a delegation from the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA) paid an advocacy visit to Mrs. Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, the Head of Service of Anambra State. The purpose of the visit was to engage Mrs. Igwegbe on the state’s commitment to domesticating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in Anambra State.
Objectives:
To advocate for the domestication of the FOIA in Anambra State.
To seek Mrs. Igwegbe’s support in facilitating the above.
To discuss the benefits of the FOIA in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.
The CTA delegation consisted of:

Meeting Highlights: During the meeting, Mrs. Igwegbe warmly welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the importance of transparency and accountability in governance. She assured the delegation that the state government is committed to openness and transparency and therefore would support any action that will facilitate stakeholder engagement and sensitization.
The CTA team asked for an expedited action to domesticate the FOIA in Anambra State and FOIA desks.
Conclusion: The advocacy visit was successful in securing Mrs. Igwegbe’s commitment to supporting the domestication of the FOIA in Anambra State. The CTA appreciates her willingness to engage with civil society organizations.
